i do love me some scrabble.

on august 5 i was celebrating a year of sobriety with this game. plans for rollerskating in redwood city were delayed. it was cold and foggy in most of san francisco that evening – certainly in the haight/cole valley – and mac ‘n cheese, kale chips, and scrabble with friends fit the bill perfectly for some sober fun.

indeed, scrabble has played a large role in my sober fun – i guess you have to love words for that to be true. and i do.

i have played many an unsober game of scrabble, to be sure. and have even been mocked for playing at zeitgeist with a friend and not keeping score:

“just playing for the love of the words?” the barback swooping up dirty glasses asked in disbelief, after asking who was winning and hearing we didn’t care, weren’t keeping track.
